Pitino adds local standout

Minnesota added their first verbal commitment of the 2016 class. Michael Hurt, a combo forward out of Rochester (Minn.), verbally committed to Richard Pitino.

Richard Pitino and his staff reeled in local talent Michael Hurt late Friday night.

Hurt gives early pledge
Shortly after Pitino and assistant Ben Johnson watched Hurt go for 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, the talented combination forward gave the Gopher head coach a verbal commitment.

"When I went to the other schools they just felt like another school to me," Hurt said. "But the Gophers felt like home to me and I love the coaches and their players and it just felt like home."

A 6-foot-7 forward, Hurt loves to face up defenders and attack off the bounce. The lefty has quality hands and nice touch around the basket. He's also a good passer with a high skill level.

"Mike is a versatile forward that can really shoot it but he's big enough to take advantage of smaller defenders on the block and take biggers guys off the bounce," D1 Minnesota coach Jeremy Miller told Scout."

"He is an extremely intelligent basketball player and one of the most competitive players I've ever coached," Miller added

Hurt is currently ranked as the No. 18 power forward in the 2016 recruiting class. Hurt is averaging 23.5 points a game during his junior season.

Hurt's commitment gives Minnesota their first pledge of the 2016 class.
