Siewert chooses Sun Devils

Arizona State landed its second 2016 commitment on Sunday, picking up a pledge from Southern California post Lucas Siewert.

Arizona State has done a good job with early recruiting, entering 2015 with commitments from 2016 wing Brendan Bailey and 2017 point guard Markus Howard.

The Sun Devils added to that list on Sunday by picking up a commitment from 6-foot-9, 220-pound Los Angeles Cathedral center Lucas Siewert.

There were a number of reasons that Siewert chose Arizona State, according to Cathedral head coach William Middlebrooks.

"He liked the school, he liked the coaches - I think they hit it off - and he understands that Herb (Sendek) runs a system that takes advantage of his strength and shooting ability," Middlebrooks said.

The ASU coaching staff prioritized Siewert early, which made a big impression on him.

"They really wanted him there and made him a priority," said Middlebrooks. "They brought the whole staff out here earlier this year so he knew they definitely wanted him, more than others."

Siewert's best value is his shooting ability for the position, which is something he plans on taking advantage of at the next level.

"He sees himself as a guy who can come in, set screens and get kick outs for shooting. They'll run sets for him where he'll have the opportunity to do what he loves to do and that's catch and shoot the ball," Middlebrooks said.
