McCoy recruitment picking up

Brandon McCoy has used a successful stretch over the last several months to establish himself as an elite 2017 prospect, and his recruitment is shaping up accordingly.

One of the top centers nationally in 2017 is 6-foot-11, 230-pound post Brandon McCoy from San Diego Morse.

A player whose mobility has improved significantly over the last year, McCoy is a very strong rebounder who plays tough, physical defense in the paint and has an improving skill set around the basket.

With his size, athleticism, toughness and improving mobility and skill set, there are reasons to believe McCoy will continue to progress as a player over the coming years.

"I’m working every day," McCoy said. "I just want my team to win. We’re 16-4. We just want to keep winning so we can get into CIF (playoffs) and win state."

Since establishing himself as an elite sophomore over the fall, McCoy says he's heard the most from Arizona, Kansas, UCLA, USC, San Diego State and Virginia, with two of those schools on him the hardest.

"San Diego State and Arizona are prioritizing me," McCoy said.

Scout's 24th ranked 2017 prospect broke down what he likes about both programs.

San Diego State: “I like them because they’re close to home. They’re just a family and they treat you like you're family.”

Arizona: “I like the way they play up-tempo. They just run. I just love good basketball and if I see a team playing good basketball, I’m always going to like them.”

There's no timetable on McCoy's decision - "Right now I'm just worried about my season," - he said, but is getting a better feel for what he's looking for in a school.

"Academics is most important, and then how they use their big men," he said.
