New schools in on Nichols

New schools continue to jump into the mix for Kipper Nichols

Three-star wing Kipper Nichols decided not to sign in the early signing period, and is having a very good senior season at Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward. The 6-foot-6 Nichols continues to improve and is seeing an increase in his recruitment.

Overall St. Edward is having a fine season, and Nichols has been happy with his team’s play as well as his own.

“I think we have been doing good as a team,” said Nichols. “Everybody is coming into their own. We have some younger guys doing a good job, and the starting five has a lot of versatility, so it has been a good season.”

He continued, “I have been working on my ball handling, playing on the perimeter, and just taking what everybody gives me.”

Recruiting wise Nichols visited Tulane and Xavier officially during the fall. Since then the Musketeers have stopped recruiting Nichols, but numerous other schools remain very much in the mix and continue to recruit him hard.

“I am just trying to take my time right now,” said Nichols of his recruiting. “I’m putting my whole self into the high school season and winning a state championship. Still I am staying in touch with coaches and I will plan some visits after the season.”

He continued, “Butler, Notre Dame, and West Virginia are the newer schools and still I am hearing from Tulane and Clemson as well, as well as other schools.”

After moving somewhat quickly from the summer to the fall in his recruitment, Nichols has learned a lot and now says he is moving at a slower pace in order to find the perfect spot for his future.

“I kind of hit the reset button,” Nichols explained of recruiting. “It is a process. It is hard, but it is a good problem to have. Me and my family are taking it day by day, and just trying to make sure I end up in the right spot.”

Nichols is currently rated as the No. 26 small forward in the 2015 class.
