Goodwin talks Buckeyes

Dane Goodwin made an early commitment to Ohio State, and he continues to work hard on his game.

It isn’t often that a freshman commits to a Big Ten school before ever playing a high school game, but that is exactly what happened with Dane Goodwin. The Upper Arlington (Ohio) product has been a marked man as a freshman because of the commitment to Ohio State, but so far so good for Goodwin.

At 6-foot-3 with a big time shooting stroke, Goodwin showed Thad Matta and his staff enough to earn an early offer which led to his commitment. Now Goodwin is having a good freshman year and feels things are going well for his team.

Also the commitment to Ohio State has led to Goodwin being the main target of opposing fans, but the young freshman says he is adjusting to it.

“It’s can kind of take you off your game a little bit, but I am used to it now, and you have to just tune everything out and go out and play,” said Goodwin of the heckling.

Even though it was an early commitment and made quickly, Goodwin couldn’t be happier to be a Buckeye.

“It feels really good to be committed,” noted Goodwin. “The players are real cool and the coaches are great as well. It just feels good to be a Buckeye.”

The son of a coach, Goodwin has been exposed to the game at a high level for a long time, but he says now that he is committed and local to Ohio State he has a great chance to learn even more.

“They do everything with a purpose there,” said Goodwin of Ohio State. “I have taken a lot of things from how D’Angelo (Russell) works every day. He is a hard worker, and just everything the staff does is to make players better.”

Goodwin represents the earliest commitment that Ohio State has had under Matta, and he is someone who hopes to continue and refine his game to be a more complete player as he gets older.
