Ona Embo taking on bigger role

France native Renathan Ona Embo has taken on a bigger role as a sophomore at Balboa Prep and some high major programs are taking notice.

Moving from France to Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep last year was a learning experience for 6-foot-3, 185-pound shooting guard Renathan Ona Embo, as the 2017 prospect spent the majority of last season on the bench.

Ona Embo departed Findlay for San Diego Balboa Prep before the season and he's been leaned on heavily right away. The sophomore is running the point guard position while impacting the game with his defense and scoring.

"It's going pretty well but I'm trying to improve as much as I can," Ona Embo said. "It's a new coach, new team and new environment. The coaches are pushing me every day in practice and trying to get the most out of me."

While being a relentless scorer is in Ona Embo's blood, he's also trying to diversify his game.

"I try to be aggressive and play my game," he said. "My game is to be aggressive on both ends of the court. I try to do what the coach asks me to do. Being aggressive, running the team, trying to get a bucket and making a play on defense."

Arizona State, USC, California and UCLA have shown Ona Embo interest, but he's not overly concerned with his recruitment right now.

"I have time," Ona Embo said. "I'm only a sophomore so I'm just trying to get better and do what the coaches ask me to do in games."
