Cal lands Dillard

Forward Davon Dillard has made his college commitment and he is headed to the Pac 12.

This is arguably the biggest basketball recruiting weekend in the history of the California Golden Bears, and it is off to a good start. On Sunday afternoon the Golden Bears received the commitment of Davon Dillard.

"Cal just felt like home," said Dillard. "I felt comfortable with everybody from all the players to the coaches, and the whole campus was beautiful. I just felt it was perfect for me."

The 6-foot-5 Dillard is a native of Gary, Indiana and now goes to school at Centereach (NY) Our Savior New American. What has made Dillard a a hot commodity on the recruiting trail is his impressive athleticism combined with his high motor.

Dillard also had significant interest throughout the process from schools such as Indiana, Purdue, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. John's, and others, but in the end Cuonzo Martin and California were extremely aggressive and landed his commitment.

Martin began recruiting Dillard very early on during his high school career when he was the Head Coach at Tennessee, and that long standing relationship proved to be the difference.

"It means a lot that (Martin) recruited me starting my freshman year," said Dillard. "It shows that he has a lot of faith in me as a player, and he and I have a great trust and I can't wait to play for him."

A big time athlete, Dillard gives the Bears a versatile defender who is improving as an offensive player. With that skill set, Dillard feels he can come in right away and contribute.

"I can't wait to get out there and play for Cal," said Dillard. "I feel like my athleticism and my energy will translate really well to the Pac 12, and that I am a perfect fit in their system."

Dillard is Cal's first commitment in the class of 2015.
