Flyers add local wing

Dayton landed a nice piece to their 2016 class on Monday night with the pledge of wing Trey Landers.

Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne is one of the best programs in the state and right down the road from the city of Dayton. Now the Flyers have tapped into that program twice. In the 2015 class they have Xeyrius Williams, and now in 2016 they have Trey Landers.

Landers is an extremely athletic 6-foot-3 and 170 pound wing who is in the middle of a very strong junior year. He has had an offer from the Flyers for a while, and on Monday night he pulled the trigger and committed to the local school.

"I am so excited, he just left the house and got off the phone with Archie (Miller) and committed," said Wayne Head Coach Travis Trice.

"I think the biggest thing for Trey is that he just felt comfortable with everything about Dayton and it felt like home," Trice continued. "Dayton offered him at the end of July, and Archie and the entire staff did a great job of recruiting him this year, and I believe that he is a perfect fit with their program."

Landers has always been a good athlete, but now he has taken that to even another level while becoming a better basketball player as a junior as well. In a high profile game against Findlay Prep, Landers was as good as any player on the floor.

"The thing about Trey that I love is he knows his deficiencies," said Trice. "He is a worker, he knows he has to improve, and he attacks workouts to get better. He has improved greatly this year in terms of putting the ball on the floor and shooting, and then his athleticism has just really exploded. There is no doubt in my mind that his best basketball is ahead of him."

Landers is the first commitment for Dayton in the 2016 class, and a solid start for Miller and his staff.
