2018 Intro: Romeo Langford

As maybe the top freshman in the state of Indiana, Romeo Langford is opening up eyes with his play.

Buzz has been building all year long around class of 2018 wing Romeo Langford. The New Albany (Ind.) native has posted big numbers on one of the best teams in the state, and he has really impressed with his maturity on the court at a young age.

New Albany Head Coach Jim Shannon knew he had a potentially special talent coming to his school this season. According to Shannon, the 6-foot-4 and 170 pound Langford has done nothing to disappoint.

“I think he is definitely getting better,” said Shannon of Langford. “He is getting pushed around a little bit at times, and he has two or three guys grabbing him and pushing him, and we’ve tried to tell him to take those hits and keep your poise because in a few years he is going to fill into his body and they won’t be able to do that any longer.”

Shannon continued, “He is our leading scorer, second in steals, second in assists, and second in rebounding. That is pretty good for a 15 year old on one of the top five teams in the state, and going against good competition. I think that his performance speaks for itself.”

Already Langford has interest from schools such as Indiana, Purdue, Butler, Louisville, Xavier, and Ohio State.

Even with that interest from high level programs, Shannon says that Langford has handled things incredibly well.

“Romeo is an A and B student who handles things very well,” said Shannon. “His parents are strict and he has been raised the right way. He doesn’t get into any trouble at all and is a great kid. I trust him completely, and his character is top notch.”

Even with all the college attention and gaudy numbers as a freshman, Shannon says that Langford is well aware that he can’t rest on his laurels.
