Sampson to examine options

Top 100 wing Brandon Sampson is going to look at his options now that St. John's has parted ways with Steve Lavin.

With Steve Lavin out at St. John's, it appears top 100 guard Brandon Sampson will do some looking around.

"Things change," Baton Rouge (La.) Madison Prep coach Jeff Jones told Scout shortly after Lavin parted ways with St. John's. "Yesterday they were talking bout extension and today he was fired."

Sampson, who ranks No. 62 in the 2015 class, picked St. John's over California and USC in mid-January.

"He's not decommitted, but he's going to evaluate the incoming staff," Jones said. "More than likely he'll reopen his recruitment. A lot of him going there was based on relationships with the staff."

"He's going to look at the new staff and I think it's in his best interest to look at everything."

According to Jones, 11 schools have reached out already.
