Open Period Preview: Louisville
There is still work to be done for coaches in the 2015 recruiting class, but for this weekend the focus really shifts to 2016, and getting out and seeing the top prospects all over the country. Here is a look at where the Louisville coaches will be, and who they are likely to see. There is no doubt that the Louisville staff will have a large presence this weekend in Hampton, Virginia at the Nike EYBL event. Several of the Cardinals top targets will be present, and with that Louisville will surely have a presence at the event. With Kenny Johnson on staff there is no doubt that Louisville is going to be recruiting the Team Takeover program, and two prospects to watch should be monitored this weekend. Five-star class of 2016 wing V.J. King and five-star class of 2017 wing D.J. Harvey will both be running with the D.C. based outfit, and each should be high on the radar for the Cardinal coaching staff. Another team that will have a lot of attention from the Louisville staff is The Family. The Michigan based squad features 2016 four-star Miles Bridges as well as 2017 five-star Brian Bowen. Both prospects are definitely on the Louisville radar. Maybe the prospect they are paying closest attention to at the event is five-star 2016 wing Tyus Battle. Battle is set to visiting Louisville for an official visit and the Cardinals are considered right in the mix. Again this summer Battle will be running with Team Final in the EYBL. Beyond those prospects, five-star Abdul Ado who is a member of the Georgia Stars will definitely get attention, and then it is possible that the coaches will monitor De’Aaron Fox of Houston Hoops and Marques Bolden of Pro Skills. Both of them are five-star prospects and have at least been on the Cardinal radar. As always the Cardinals will also be present in Dallas at the adidas Gauntlet event. This event features many of the top prospects for Louisville. One team that is sure to get a lot of attention is Ohio Basketball Club. That is who potential 2015 target and current 2016 member Maverick Rowan is running with. Rowan has a Louisville offer and is a favorite of Rick Pitino. Also Hoop Dreams out of the state of Kentucky is sure to draw the Louisville coaches. Guard Quentin Goodin is a top priority for the staff and then power forward Aaric Holman is someone who could really turn himself into a priority recruit if he has a good spring in front of the coaches. Both players are considered four-star prospects. At the point guard position a pair of five-star prospects will also be in Dallas. Atlanta Celtics star Kobi Simmons and Team Loaded prospect Dennis Smith will both be in the building, and both will be tracked very closely by the Cardinals. Outside of those prospects, interior player Edrice Adebayo, wing Rawle Alkins, and guard Curtis Jones will all be tracked by Louisville at the event. While most of the top targets will be in Hampton or Dallas for the Cardinals, the Under Armour circuit in New Orleans will also feature some of major targets for Louisville. Specifically Team Breakdown has a duo of players that Louisville is after. Five-star big Dewan Huell and three-star guard Eric Hester both will be playing, and both should be tracked by the Cardinals. Also a pair of five-star wings with offers in Josh Jackson and Terrance Ferguson will be playing. Jackson is arguably the best player in the entire country and will be playing with D1 Nation while Ferguson, who is clearly a major priority, is running with MWA Elite. The other prospect likely to get a close look is fast rising four-star guard Markelle Fultz. Fultz is out of the DC area and will run with the DC Blue Devils. A strong showing could lead to an offer for Fultz after the weekend.
