Open Period Preview: Indiana
There is still work to be done for coaches in the 2015 recruiting class, but for this weekend the focus really shifts to 2016, and getting out and seeing the top prospects all over the country. Here is a look at where the Indiana coaches will be, and who they are likely to see. There is no doubt that the Indiana staff will have a large presence this weekend in Hampton, Virginia at the Nike EYBL event. Several of the Hoosiers top targets will be present, and with that Indiana will surely have a presence at the event. One of the top targets for the Hoosiers in Hampton will be Lamar Stevens of Team Final. The powerfully built 6-foot-5 forward is a very good athlete and a tough kid. He is someone IU has put in a lot of work with, and no doubt will be following. Also look for the Hoosiers to spend a lot of time with Miles Bridges. IU recently landed his high school teammate in Thomas Bryant, and now they will surely turn their focus to Bridges in hopes of landing another Huntington Prep standout. Beyond them, East Coast prospects such as Bruce Brown of BABC, Tyrique Jones of Expressions Elite, and Rodney Miller of the New York Lightning are all sure to attract the attention of the Indiana coaches. Along with that event, IU should have a strong presence at the adidas Gauntlet in Dallas. Dallas is where arguably IU’s top wing prospect in Rawle Alkins will be located. Also several other players will be right there for the Hoosiers to track. Most notable might be in-state targets Eron Gordon and Jaren Jackson. Both prospects have IU offers and are considered priority recruits. Beyond those guys, De'Ron Davis will likely be followed by Tom Crean and his staff as well as small forward Braxton Blackwell who is running with the Atlanta Celtics. Down in New Orleans at the Under Armour Association several of Indiana’s premier targets will be located. The Indy Hoosiers are of course loaded at the 16 and under level with Kris Wilkes, Paul Scruggs, and Zach Gunn. All three prospects hold IU offers, and are all considered the highest priority recruits. Then there is center Joey Brunk who is running with the Hoosiers 17 and under squad. Brunk has an IU offer and is seen as someone who the Hoosiers are going to go after very hard throughout the rest of his recruitment.
