adidas Gauntlet: Three on Hands the hardest

DUNCANVILLE, Tex. - Jaylen Hands proved his five-star status and then some this weekend. What's the latest in the 2017 point guard's recruitment?

One of the top point guards in 2017 comes from Chula Vista (Calif.) Mater Dei in Jaylen Hands.

The 6-foot-2, 155-pound sophomore was one of the top performers of the adidas Gauntlet in Dallas this weekend, using his elite body control and high level handle and athleticism to create for himself and others.

“I wanted to come out to prove that I’m one of the top point guards in 2017,” Hands said of his motivation heading into the spring. “I want to be the best.”

Hands is constantly working on his game in order to reach his goals and he feels like he’s made strides since the beginning of the school year.

“I feel like I’m a better ball handler, I’ve gotten stronger, faster and I’m a better decision maker,” he said. “I’m not turning the ball over as much.”

The five-star prospect identified three schools putting the most effort into his recruitment and quickly broke down what he likes about each of them.

“The three schools recruiting me the hardest are definitely Arizona, UCLA and San Diego State,” Hands said. “There are a lot of schools I like but those three are recruiting me the hardest.”

Arizona: “(My visit) was crazy; I loved it. I love the players, the coaches – they’re really cool – the facilities and just definitely the coaches.”

UCLA: “The coaches are cool, I love the way they play and it’s close to home.”

San Diego State: “It’s close to home and I love the coaches.”

Hands said he’s more focused on his game than his recruitment right now.

“I’ll just figure it out as time goes on,” he said. “I’m not worried about it right now.”
