Maryland after Young

Maryland is taking a look at high scoring guard Jacob Young out of the state of Texas

Every now and then Mark Turgeon likes to get back to his roots and recruit the state of Texas. One of their most recent targets is Houston Yates product Jacob Young.

As the Pac 12 Player of the Year this season Joseph Young earned a lot of praise for his play, and now his younger brother Jacob is beginning to emerge from that shadow. While Jacob isn’t quite as tall as Joseph, standing around 6-feet, he does have that same ability to score, and now is working on his all-around game.

“I am just trying to work hard, show people what I can do, and just get recruited real hard so that I can play on a big stage,” said Young.

He continued, “I have been working on my ball handling skills and also my leadership. I think those are two real important areas for a point guard.”

Recruiting wise a handful of schools are already after Young, and more are sure to call and inquire about him.

“I am hearing from Oregon, Baylor, Duquesne, Maryland, Cal Poly, Rice, and Arkansas,” said Young. “I have offers from Baylor and Duquesne.”

Turgeon and Maryland haven’t offered yet, but Young says that he is in contact with the Terps, and they are telling him what they want to see him improve on.

“They are just talking and telling me that I have to continue to improve on defense,” said Young. “They love how I can score, but now I have to improve on defense and that is what they are looking for.”

For now Young says that he is in no hurry to make a decision, and is just looking forward to the recruiting process and seeing who is interested in him.
