DeLaurier excited by Horns offer

Shaka Smart is making Javin DeLaurier a major priority in the class of 2016.

Since getting the job at Texas, Shaka Smart hasn't wasted time attacking the recruiting trail. One of his top priorities in the 2016 class is Javin DeLaurier. The Virginia native is someone Smart is familiar with, and now that he is having a huge spring for Team Loaded, Texas is in full pursuit.

It was a tough end to the high school season for DeLaurier. His year ended due to injury, but that hasn’t slowed him down at all as he has been an absolute force to start of the spring on the adidas Gauntlet.

“It has been fun to get back on the court,” said DeLaurier. “I dislocated my elbow at the end of my high school season, so it has been good to get back in the game and help my team.”

He continued, “I have been working on everything. I have been really working on my perimeter game, and also at finishing better around the rim. I’m just trying to make myself a more complete player.”

In recent weeks schools such as Cincinnati, Texas, Clemson, Xavier, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest have all offered to go along with schools like Virginia Tech and Princeton that have been involved for a while.

About his recent run of offers, DeLaurier said, “It was an honor to get all of those offers. It shows that all of my work in the gym has paid off.”

Even with all the attention, DeLaurier says three schools seem to be pursuing him the hardest.

“The schools recruiting me the hardest right now are Texas, Virginia Tech, and Princeton,” said DeLaurier.

Shaka Smart is familiar with DeLaurier from his time at VCU, and now he has continued the recruitment to Texas.

“Coach Smart is a great coach who had a lot of success at VCU,” said DeLaurier when asked about Texas. “Obviously Texas is a historic program with a lot of tradition and it is a great place, so it was good to get that offer.”

At this point DeLaurier is in no hurry to make a decision, but he does know what he will be looking for in a school.

“I am just looking for the best fit for me,” he explained. “I want to find a good mix of athletics and academics, and also the right fit with the coach. I am just looking for the best situation.”

Look for DeLaurier to make a major rise in the rankings when they are next updated.
