Martin adds UCLA, ASU offers

Remy Martin has added two new scholarship offers after a good couple weekends on the AAU circuit.

A successful couple weekends with the Oakland Soldiers on the EYBL circuit has produced two scholarship offers for Remy Martin.

The 6-foot, 180-pound 2017 point guard from Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon has picked up offers from UCLA and Arizona State, to go with previous offers from UConn, NC State and USC.

Getting the news of the UCLA offer was a big deal for Martin.

"He was thrilled," said Sierra Canyon head coach Ty Nichols. "Growing up in L.A. he's been around UCLA basketball for a long time.

"What Steve Alford has done with the program there is amazing. He went to the Sweet 16 this year with a bunch of young kids. They're doing a great thing."

The Arizona State offer also was something Martin was very happy about.

"I think it's a real compliment to Remy that Bobby Hurley, who is arguably one of the best college basketball point guards of all time, would recognize Remy's talents right away," said Nichols. "I think that's a great compliment from coach Hurley."

As of now, there's no rush for Martin to make a decision.

"He's just a sophomore and all we talk about is him staying humble and continuing to get better," said Nichols. "I've always felt like Remy would blow up this spring and he is."

Martin's head coach is pleased with his sophomore's development over the last year and thinks his best days are yet to come.

"He's improved every month and he's still getting better," Nichols said. "He's not close to reaching his ceiling. He's so explosive, he's great with the ball, he's an unbelievable on the ball defender and has some real bounce."
