Howard looking forward to move

Markus Howard has had an eventful couple months with a decommitment and a move to Findlay Prep. The 2017 prospect discusses his recruitment and high school change.

One of the top scorers in the 2017 class is 6-foot, 165-pound Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep point guard Markus Howard.

After playing his first two seasons of high school at Gilbert (Ariz.) Perry, Howard recently decided to transfer to Findlay Prep.

"I wanted to get prepared for the next level," Howard said. "I wasn’t being challenged that much in Arizona. I want to be ready for the next level."

The four-star prospect was an early commitment to Arizona State but opened up his recruitment shortly before the Sun Devils replaced head coach Herb Sendek with Bobby Hurley.

The Sun Devils' new staff has begun re-recruiting Howard.

"I talked to coach (Bobby) Hurley last week and had a good conversation with him and how he would view me in the program," he said.

"I don’t really have much to say right now because I’m still getting to know coach Hurley. We need to have more conversations but I have a good vibe with them. I’ll continue to be in contact with them."

Besides Arizona State, there are a handful of schools that Howard has been hearing from recently, with some others he hopes to be recruited by.

"I recently got offers from UNLV and Texas Tech. I’ve talked to Oregon a little bit too," Howard said. "Hopefully I hear from Duke, North Carolina and Arizona. I want those kind of schools to recruit me."

After making an early decision for Arizona State, Howard isn't in much of a rush this time around.

"I’m going to take my time this time," he said. "I’m probably not going to decide until the end of my senior year. I have two more years. I’m looking to see what will be the best fit for me with the coach and then style of play."
