Diakite takes West Coast swing

Mamadi Diakite visited a couple West Coast schools last week, while two programs close to home remain in contention for the 2016 prospect.

One of 2016's top athletes is 6-foot-9, 195-pound Dyke (Va.) Blue Ridge School post Mamadi Diakite.

An explosive athlete, Diakite specializes as a shot blocker and rebounder, but can also finish around the rim and hit jumpers.

"I’m getting better," Diakite said. "Defensively I’m good; offensively I’m working. I’ve been practicing a lot. I just need more time. I’ve only been playing four and a half years. I feel a lot of progression."

Last week, Diakite took unofficial visits to two of the four schools recruiting him the hardest in USC and Washington.

"USC has a great campus and the program is really good," Diakite said. "It’s a really good team. They can go very far. They play fullcourt, up and down, that’s what they tell me.

"At Washington, you have freedom there. You can play any position, you can shoot and do a lot of stuff. The campus is really great."

Up next for Diakite will be an unofficial visit to Virginia on Friday.

"I live there so I know Virginia," he said. "I know the players and campus."

Diakite is also getting a lot of attention from Georgetown.

"With Georgetown I like that it’s a big time place," Diakite said. "They’ve had a lot of players go to the NBA from there; it’s a big time place."

As of now, there's no timetable for Diakite to make a decision.

"I don’t know yet," he said.
