Smith continues to work on his game
Five-star prospect Dennis Smith is truly one of the elite point guard prospects in the entire country. Running with Team Loaded in the adidas Gauntlet, Smith has put up huge numbers and continues to have big time coaches track his every move. Even though Smith checks in as the No. 1 point guard and the No. 5 overall player in the class of 2016, he knows there are things to improve on, and so far this spring he feels he is working on his biggest weakness. “I have been working on being more vocal,” said Smith. “That is a lot of coaches said I needed to work on next year, so that is the main thing I have been looking to improve.” He continued, “I think I have done a good job with that. Being vocal is about being positive and helping your teammates out, and I think I have been doing a good job there.” Recruiting wise schools such as NC State, Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Kansas, and Kentucky are all recruiting Smith. At this point most of the buzz surrounding Smith is with Louisville and NC State. About his interest in NC State, Smith said, “I grew up an NC State fan so I was definitely blessed when I got the offer. I was excited to hear the news and I have built a great relationship with the guys.” He continued about the Wolfpack, “I talk to Cat (Barber) every now and again, and also Coach (Orlando) Early and Coach (Mark) Gottfried I talk to them a lot as well.” When it comes to Louisville the pitch is simple, they want to put the ball in Smith’s hands and let him go to work. “They want me to come in and be the guy,” Smith explained of Louisville’s pitch. “They want me to come in, in 2016 and run the show.” For now Smith says he is in no hurry to make a college commitment, so expect the coaches to be tracking him quite a bit during the month of July.
