Smart extends offer to Davis
Four-star skilled center De'Ron Davis was impressive this past weekend at the adidas Gauntlet event in Indianapolis. The Aurora (Col.) Overland product is running with the Colorado Hawks and new Texas boss Shaka Smart has shown significant interest in the four-star prospect. “The spring is going pretty good,” said Davis. “We have been sloppy at times, but overall we have been really good as a team and individually I think I am playing well.” He continued, “I am working on being aggressive. Last year I took a back seat to some people, so I am just trying to be more aggressive this year.” When it comes to his recruitment, a strong list of schools are still involved with Davis. “Texas, Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana, and then VCU just offered,” said Davis. “I would say those are the main ones right now.” The recent offer from Shaka Smart was a big one for Davis who is intrigued by the Longhorns. “It is a blessing to know Texas offered me,” said Davis. “It was great to hear from them, and I am looking forward to getting to know the coaches better.” Davis continued about Texas, “I know Texas has a great program and that Coach Smart has won a lot in his career.” Smart likely sees Davis as someone who can not only play on the back end of his full court press, but also as a prospect who can do some good things on the offensive end, especially when the court is spaced given his ability to drive as well as score with his back to the basket. For now Davis is taking a methodical approach to his recruitment, but says he has an idea of what will be important to him when he looks for a school. “I am not looking so much at location, for me it is about development and the connection that I have with the coaching staff,” explained Davis.
