Young begins to emerge
The state of Ohio has a banner year for talent in 2016, and now in the 2017 class a few kids are emerging. One of them is Massillon (Ohio) Jackson standout Kyle Young. The 6-foot-7 Young has a solid skillset and good athleticism, and now is beginning to put it all together. “The spring has been going good for us,” explained Young. “We won our first few tournaments and are playing well as a team, so everything has gone well.” About his own game, Young said, “I have really been trying to work on attacking the rim and shooting off the dribble. I want to attack more because my height can really be an asset.” With his improvement and more exposure, Young is beginning to see his recruitment expand. “I got offered by Xavier last weekend at King James,” noted Young. “Then I have offers from Akron, Miami-Ohio, Kent State, and Toledo.” About the offer from Xavier, Young said, “It is just crazy. It is something you think of when you are little, but never something you actually think will happen. It is kind of a dream come true.” At this point Young is taking things slowly. He says that he hasn’t really made any true unofficial visits yet, though he has stopped by a couple of campuses to play open gyms. While Young is still in the process of gathering information about all of the schools recruiting him, and seeing who exactly is going to be interested, he does know what he will be looking for in a school. “Really I want to look for a place where I will get a good education, and a place where I will have fun playing basketball,” explained Young. Look for Young’s recruitment to expand into July when more college coaches have a chance to see him on the AAU circuit and get a feel for his game.
