Memorial Day weekend means major hoops

Though the next live evaluation period won’t take place until July, grassroots basketball goes on. And Memorial Day Weekend always feature multiple tournaments and league sessions.

This weekend features the Under Armour Association event — featuring fast-rising leading scorer Kameron McGusty — in New York, plus another edition of Nike’s EYBL, in Minneapolis. There also are numerous, stacked regional events tipping off.

Here’s a look at where the Scout national team will reside this weekend:

On The Marquee: The guys like Josh Jackson, Markelle Fultz and Trevon Duval (pictured above) are players we can’t wait to see again. Spectators and coaches have especially been raving about Duval and his natural gifts, and there’s a host of young players we’ve been getting tips on lately whom we are excited to observe. That list includes Isaac Kante, Chris Kelly, Mayles Cale, Kaleb Fitzgerald, Dontay Bassett and more.

What: Nike EYBL

Where:Minneapolis, Minn.

When: May 23-25

Reporting Staff: Brian Snow

Top Teams: Pro Skills, Athletes First, Wings Elite, Oakland Soldiers, PSA Cardinals, Team CP3, Team Final, King James, MOKAN Elite, The Family, Houston Hoops, Elfrid Payton Elite, St. Louis Eagles, Las Vegas Prospects, Team Penny, Team Takeover, Georgia Stars, City Rocks, E1T1, NJ Playaz.

Top Players: Malik Monk, Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum, Omari Spellman, Abdul Ado, Udoka Azubuike, Tony Bradley, Nick Richards, De’Aaron Fox, Mamadi Diakite, Alterique Gilbert, Bruce Brown, DeJon Jarreau, Rodney Miller, Miles Bridges, Troy Brown, Michael Porter, Zach Brown, Wendell Carter, Jeremiah Tilmon, D.J. Harvey, Matt Coleman.

On The Marquee: I can’t wait to see some of the guys who have emerged this spring. On that immediately comes to mind is City Rocks combo guard Kevin Huerter. Also I want to see how the Team Final squad looks, especially Lamar Stevens, who is one of the toughest kids in the nation. Of course there is the opportunity to see elite talents like Malik Monk, Jayson Tatum, Harry Giles and Michael Porter, which never gets old. Beyond that, seeing the explosion of Marques Bolden should be fun to monitor as well.

What: David Rose Classic

Where:Greensboro, N.C.

When: May 22-24

Reporting Staff: Rob Harrington

Top Teams: Team Loaded NC, Team Loaded VA, Upward Stars, River City Reign, Juice All-Stars, SEBL, Charlotte Nets, Flight 22 West.

Top Players: Dennis Smith, Maliek White, Justice Kithcart, Blake Harris, Jordan Bruner, Mamadi Diakite, Richard Washington, Jordan Cross, Tariq Simmons, Nate Hinton.

On The Marquee: This event, organized by the Phenom Hoop Report, features a very strong regional field that will boast the presence of multiple high-major prospects. This cycle currently is very strong in North Carolina and Virginia, in particular, and events such as this one will flourish as a result. I’ve seen many of the players here at least once, but I’m unfamiliar with some others and always am happy to watch major conference prospects go head to head.
