Winston provides update

Cassius Winston provides an update on his recruitment and his recovery from injury.

Five-star point guard Cassius Winston is sidelined currently with a wrist injury. It is a big blow to not only Winston, but The Family AAU program. Still the long term prognosis is good, and Winston continues to move ahead in his recruitment.

Wearing a bright orange cast over his wrist, Winston is simply an assistant coach this weekend, but he says it is a minor setback.

“It is fine,” said Winston. “The doctors tell me that I have five more weeks in this cast, so in five weeks I will have a brace on and I will be back.”

About his new role as coach, Winston said, “We need these wins, so If I can’t be out there playing I am going to do whatever we can to help us get to the Peach Jam, and this weekend that means being an assistant coach.”

Recruiting wise the same schools remain involved with Winston. Michigan, Michigan State, Marquette, Ohio State, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, and Iowa State are all recruiting him hard.

Recently Winston made another unofficial visit Michigan, and like his past trips to Ann Arbor this one went well.

“It was a good visit,” said Winston of the trip. “My family got to see the campus again. It is a place I have seen a lot, and it was just a good visit.”

When asked what he looks for on his visits to Michigan, Winston said, “The main thing for me is getting to know the coaches and the players. I want to get a feel for them when I go there, and I was able to talk to them a little bit so that was good.”

The other in-state school, Michigan State, has had Winston on campus several times as well, and he says he plans to get up there again soon.

“I will definitely be up there again,” said Winston. “I don’t know when, but I am for sure going to get back up there again.”

He continued about the Spartans, “They are a good school with a great basketball program. Those guys are all like family and they have been recruiting me the longest so I feel like I know them really well.”

At this point Winston says that no decision is imminent, and he knows when the time does come to make a choice that is isn’t going to be easy.

“It is going to be a very tough decision,” noted Winston. “You never will know 100 percent what is right, so I will have to go with it when I think I know.”
