Recruiting wise things have picked up in a major way for Thompson. “Recently I received offers from Oklahoma, Xavier, Pittsburgh, and Arizona State to name a few,” said Thompson. “Also I have offers from local schools such as Rutgers, Seton Hall, Temple, Richmond, and a few others.” He continued about his recruitment, “It is nice to have these new opportunities, but I am not letting it give me a big head. I know I have to stay focused and continue to improve.” Rutgers was one of the first schools to offer Thompson, and he is very intrigued by what they have to offer. “I am definitely strongly considering them,” said Thompson of the Scarlet Knights. “They are one of my top schools. I am excited to hear from them and they have a good program.” About Xavier, Thompson said, “I know that they have a need for bigs when I am a freshman. I have talked to Coach (Luke) Murray a lot over the phone, so it is a school I would like to visit.” Pittsburgh is a school that has a lot of success recruiting within the state of New Jersey in the past, and Thompson likes the Panthers. “Pittsburgh is a good school that has always done a good job of developing big men,” said Thompson. “They say that I would have a chance to play right away and the coaches seem like good guys.” At this point Thompson doesn’t have a firm timeline for a decision and wants to play out the summer and see some schools. When the time does come to make a decision, Thompson does know what will be important to him. “I am just looking for the best fit,” said Thompson. “Playing a lot as a freshman is something that is important to me. It is going to be tough, but I want to go where they can make me better and where I will have a chance to play right away.”
Thompson uses spring to emerge
College coaches always search during the spring for players who are beginning to emerge, and one of those guys is Taurean Thompson. Running with the NJ Playaz in the EYBL, the 6-foot-10 Thompson has shown good athleticism and an impressive ability to run the floor, and now Thompson is seeing some major offers come his way. “I have been working on my consistency,” said Thompson. “I am working on making a difference in the game in ways that don’t show up on the box score. I have been working on talking and communicating so we are in the right spot on defense, and setting better screens. Things like that have been my focus.”
