Big offers for Petty

John Petty's ability to put the ball in the basket at a high level has led to major offers.

There is no question that class of 2017 wing John Petty can flat out score the ball. Running with the Alabama Challenge this spring, Petty has put up huge numbers, and that has led to an explosion of offers.

“I have been playing well,” said Petty of his spring. “I have been getting stronger in the weight room, and also I am working on my ball handling. I think I have just gotten better as a player.”

When it comes to recruiting, Petty has plenty of interest coming his way.

“I have heard from Arkansas and Georgia, and then I got an offer from Kentucky, those have been the most recent schools,” noted Petty.

Along with those two schools, the in-state powers like Alabama and Auburn have been very active in his recruitment.

When asked about his relationship with new Crimson Tide Head Coach Avery Johnson, Petty said, “Coach Johnson is a great guy. He came down to my school before it ended and was telling me how he is going to turn the program around.”

About Auburn, Petty said, “I’ve been talking to Coach (Bruce) Pearl for a few years now. He has been bringing that program along well. I can’t wait for the next few years to see how the program is going to be.”

Of course getting an offer from Kentucky was also big for Petty. He says he was honored to hear from the Wildcats.

“It was big to get the Kentucky offer,” noted Petty. “I was real proud to get that offer, but I am just going to keep working hard and stay humble. That was a big offer though and Kentucky is a great program.”

When it comes to Arkansas, Petty said, “I watched Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament. I don’t know a ton about their program, but they told me to keep working hard and that I would fit in well with what they do.”

For now there isn’t expected to be a quick decision from Petty who says he wants to get all the information that he can on the schools recruiting him.
