About his spring, Wilkes said, “It is going pretty well. I feel like I have been playing better and I have just been working on my game.” He continued, “I want to work on getting stronger. I have also been really working on improving in the mid-range game and also getting on the glass more and rebounding.” Recruiting wise Wilkes has been a top priority. He has offers from Butler, Indiana, Purdue, Xavier, Illinois, and others. Also interest has been heating up from schools such as Michigan, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Stanford. Up next for Wilkes is a visit to Illinois, and it is the educational programs that the Illini can offer that really help appeal to the talented wing. “I think I might like Illinois a lot,” said Wilkes. “They have a good engineering program. I told them I want to do robotic engineering, so they are going to show me what it is like and see more than just the basketball program.” Also coming up for Wilkes is an unofficial trip to Kentucky. On the visit Wilkes is looking forward to getting a feel for the Wildcats program. “It felt good to hear from Kentucky,” noted Wilkes. “I just want to see what it is like down there. Hopefully when I go down there I will be able to play against their guys and just see everything.” While Wilkes is set to trip to Illinois and Kentucky, and has made visits to Indiana, Purdue, and Butler, there is another school he knows he wants to see before too long. “I would also want to see Michigan,” said Wilkes. “I haven’t been down there yet. I just like their program, and want to see the school.”
Wilkes ready for visits
Five-star class of 2017 wing Kris Wilkes has taken a low key approach to his recruitment. While he has visited some of the schools on his list, he has preferred to stay close to home as a younger prospect. Now heading into his junior year, Wilkes is ready to make a few more unofficial visits. Already Wilkes has had a strong spring playing with the Indy Hoosiers on the AAU circuit, and over the weekend he impressed at the prestigious Nike Elite 100 for top underclass prospects.
