NBPA Top 100: Nick Rakocevic

Nick Rakocevic has a long list of schools continuing to recruit him.

Power forward Nick Rakocevic has been on the high-major radar since his sophomore year. The class of 2016 standout continues to have a long list of schools and is showing his versatility at the NBPA Top 100 Camp.

“I like this camp a lot,” said Rakocevic. “It is tough getting up at 6 a.m. but it is part of the process. I am having a good time, getting better, and talking to the NBA guys definitely helps me improve.”

He continued, “I am definitely working on getting stronger. Also I am working on my ball handling so I can be a more complete player.”

Recruiting wise, a long list of schools continue to stay in touch with the versatile forward.

“I am hearing from Texas, UCLA, USC, Tennessee, Virginia, Miami, Iowa, Indiana, and Wisconsin,” he said.

Wisconsin is a school that Rakocevic has been to before, and a place that has recruited the Chicagoland area well.

About the Badgers, Rakocevic said, “I love Wisconsin. Coach (Bo) Ryan is my guy. Also Coach (Gary) Close and Coach (LaMont) Paris are great coaches. Also I think their game fits well with my style of play. Frank Kaminsky is someone who I try and model my game after, so I like Wisconsin a lot.”

A newer school that has picked things up is Tennessee. With the addition of Rick Barnes and his staff the Volunteers are now very interested in Rakocevic.

“I like how Coach Barnes has had guys like me who can stretch the floor as a big,” explained Rakocevic. “They are telling me how he has had a lot of pros over the years at Texas, and how he can help me get to that level.”

For now there are no visits set up, and Rakocevic doesn’t anticipate making an visits, official or unofficial, before the fall. When he does go on the visits and talk to the coaches, Rakocevic does know what will be important to him.

“I am just looking for a place where I have a good relationship with the coaching staff, and a place where there is an opportunity to play as a freshman,” said Rakocevic.
