Garland has two recruiting him hardest

Darius Garland had an impressive performance at the USA Basketball 16u trials. Here's the latest on the 2018 point guard's recruitment.

One of the better point guard prospects in the 2018 class is 6-foot, 140 pound Brentwood (Tenn.)'s Darius Garland.

The rising sophomore is a quick and crafty point guard who has a high basketball IQ and skill level.

“I’m an all-around player,” Garland said. “I like to get my teammates involved. I’m a leader and like to lead my team and score a little bit.

"I want to play defense better, handle the ball smoother and continue working on my shot."

Garland says that the two schools recruiting him the hardest are Memphis and Vanderbilt, both of which have offered.

"I like the coaching staff at Memphis, how they play and it’s a nice campus," said Garland.

"Vanderbilt has a great coaching staff; I love coach (Kevin) Stallings. They play really fast and go up and down the court and I like that."

Other schools showing interest in Garland include Indiana, Kansas, Wake Forest, Michigan and Michigan State, but right now he's more focused on his game and upcoming season than recruiting.

"I want to work hard on my books, work with my team and win a state championship," he said.
