Young sees Duke, picks up offer

Trae Young, a highly touted point guard prospect, took a visit to Duke and added a scholarship offer during the trip.

Trae Young took an unofficial visit to Duke on Sunday, just a day after competing in the NBPA Top 100 Camp.

“It was awesome,” Young told Scout. “Just walking around campus and seeing the facilities and spending time with coach K for basically four hours. It was fun.”

“He was just telling me about what he sees in my game and what he sees I can do for their program and that I’m a Duke type of kid and that I fit in their program.”

During the visit to Durham, N.C., Mike Krzyzewski offered Young, a standout at Norman (Okla.) North, a scholarship.

“It was a humbling experience being able to talk to him,” Young said. “It was pretty cool.”

“He said as of right now that I’m the only one they are recruiting in the 2017 class at point guard,” he added. “They don’t offer very many people, but they may offer one more.”

Young’s father – Ray – said the staff likes his son because of his versatility and ability to fill multiple roles.

“They want him because he can play both guard spots,” the elder Young said. “He can play the one but if they need him to come off screens he can play some off guard.”

Young has also taken unofficial visits to UCLA, Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

“I’m looking forward to Texas pretty soon and Arizona here in August,” Young said.

Young is currently regarded as a four-star recruit in the 2017 recruiting class.
