Boone picks Samford

Samford got their 2016 class off to a good start with a pledge from Kentucky native James Boone.

Scott Padgett and Samford added the first piece of their 2016 recruiting puzzle on Monday.

James Boone, a 6-foot-6 combo guard out of Murray (Ky.) High, informed Scout of his pledge.

"I felt like Samford is in a position with the new coaching staff and coach Padgett where they can win as soon as I get there and I will have a nice role as a freshmen,'" Boone told Scout. "And as a player, they have so much to offer."

Boone also considered scholarship offers from Eastern Kentucky, Furman and Lipscomb. Murray State and Belmont had also showed interest.

Boone is Samford's first pledge of the 2016 class.
