July Recruiting Preview: Kentucky

The Kentucky coaches will be busy this week. Here is a look at who they will be watching and where they will be.

The busiest month of the year for college coaches and high school prospects is upon us. Every Wednesday through Sunday for the rest of the month will involve players and coaches crisscrossing the country playing in some of the top basketball events around. Here is a look at what the Kentucky coaches will be up to during July.

The Wildcats already have one commitment coming from international prospect Tai Wynyard. While that is a solid start, UK is of course looking for much more.

At the top of the list for the Wildcats if course Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum, and Josh Jackson. The top three players in the class all have the Wildcats in their top group. Tatum runs with the St. Louis Eagles and Giles with CP3, both will be at the Peach Jam. Jackson will be at the Under Armour All-American Camp.

While those three are at the top of list, one of the most interesting is the pursuit of Markelle Fultz. Kentucky is thought to be the team to beat for the five-star wing if they offer, and like Jackson, Fultz will be at the Under Armour All-American Camp.

Of course the Wildcats would also like to bring in a point guard, and their top target appears to be Kobi Simmons. Simmons will be with the Atlanta Celtics at the adidas Uprising Gauntlet Finale.

Also down low Kentucky will have a lot of targets to track. Sacha Killeya-Jones will be at the Under Armour All-American Camp, Marques Bolden will be with the Texas Titans at the Peach Jam, Jarrett Allen with Texas Pro at the Gauntlet Finale, and Udoka Azibuike with the Georgia Stars at the Peach Jam.

If that isn’t enough, John Calipari and his staff are also in the market for wings, and offers are out to Miles Bridges, Malik Monk, and Rawle Alkins. Bridges will be with The Family and Monk with the Arkansas Wings at the Peach Jam while Alkins will be with New York Rens at the Gauntlet Finale.

While 2016 clearly will have the majority of the attention from the coaching staff, the 2017 class will also have some players getting looks.

As one would expect, Kentucky is already prioritizing many of the elite prospects in the class. Some to watch are Mohammed Bamba, Jarred Vanderbilt, Gary Trent, and Nick Richards at the Peach Jam. Also expect them to watch Kris Wilkes and Paul Scruggs at the Under Armour All-American Camp.

Other prospects will definitely emerge, and potentially even become priority recruits for the Wildcats, but at least to start this is who it looks like will have their attention as things get going in July.
