July Recruiting Preview: Louisville
The busiest month of the year for college coaches and high school prospects is upon us. Every Wednesday through Sunday for the rest of the month will involve players and coaches crisscrossing the country playing in some of the top basketball events around. Here is a look at what the Louisville coaches will be up to during July. Heading into July the Cardinals have one commitment from five-star wing V.J. King. King picked the Cardinals in June, and will have the attention of the Louisville coaches at the Peach Jam where he will be running with Team Takeover. While there is no doubt that attention will be paid to King, expect a major Louisville presence at the Under Armour All-American Camp in Charlotte. That is where top targets Kameron McGusty and Markelle Fultz will be. Both McGusty and Fultz are natural wings who can play some point guard, and both are top targets who the Cardinals are going to be playing very close attention to. Also at the top of Louisville’s list will be Tyus Battle and De’Aaron Fox. Battle will be running with Team Final after missing the entire spring with an injury and Fox will be with Houston Hoops. Both prospects will be at the Peach Jam. Aside from those top targets, Louisville will have some definite priorities at the adidas Uprising Gauntlet Finale. Specifically Team Loaded North Carolina targets Dennis Smith and Edrice Adebayo. On Team Loaded Virginia is the recently offered Javin DeLaurier. Beyond those guys combo guard Bruce Brown of BABC will be in action at the Peach, while Dewan Huell and Terrance Ferguson will also be at the Under Armour All-American Camp. The class of 2016 no doubt will be the priority for the Louisville staff, but it is also safe to assume that the class of 2017 will get some attention during the month of July. Conveniently for the Cardinals also on Team Takeover is one of their top 2017 targets D.J. Harvey. Harvey will be next to King on the wing for Takeover. Also at the Peach Jam will be point guard target Matt Coleman. Also expect Louisville to look at Trevon Duval while in Charlotte at the Under Armour All-American Camp. Other prospects will definitely emerge, and potentially even become priority recruits for the Cardinals, but at least to start this is who it looks like will have their attention as things get going in July.
