Peach Jam: Ikechukwu Obiagu

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - It is tough to find many more impactful players in high school basketball than Ikechukwu Obiagu, and he does it all while not scoring.

One of the more interesting and unique players in the class of 2017 is Ikechukwu Obiagu. He was instrumental in the Georgia Stars win on Friday, and he did so while scoring exactly one basket (a dunk), and missing six free throws.

Clearly offense isn’t his forte, but on the defensive side of the ball he is one of the best shot blockers we have ever seen. Obiagu was credited with 11 blocks, it seemed like more, and he altered so many others it was tough to count. Add in nine rebounds, and Obiagu was as instrumental in the Stars win as anyone, and he gave them nothing on the offensive end.

Obviously Obiagu is going to have to improve on offense, but he is such a unique talent on defense that teams have to account for him every time they take a shot, and usually that means they are out of rhythm on offense.

It is still very early in the recruiting process of Obiagu but he did have Virginia, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, and Auburn all watching him this evening.
