BotS: Gerald Liddell

SUWANEE, Ga. — While most college coaches are spending their July evaluations on rising seniors along with select rising juniors, Texas native Gerald Liddell nevertheless is drawing attention as well. The rising sophomore competes for Nike D1 Elite and is competing in the 16-under division at the Best of the South event.

My first exposure to Gerald Liddell occurred not too long ago, in April at the The Warmup. But even in the past three months, the 6-7 forward has gained athleticism and the experience to succeed against elevated competition.

Liddell is very thin and certainly a long way from where he'll need to be physically, but of course he also has three more years of high school to develop his physique. Already, he possesses a soft, arching jump shot that's fairly accurate from medium-range. He's also quick to the ball with nice reflexes and makes some dribble moves — even going left — that suggest big things down the road.

Though not yet nearly as explosive as he'll be later, he has gained athleticism during the past three months and easily elevated for a baseline slam with room to spare.

Despite his age, Liddell hardly is a secret to college coaches. NC State was among the programs watching him from the sidelines on Friday, and he says he holds offers from the Wolfpack along with Florida State, Texas, SMU, Houston and Baylor.

Liddell is one of the most prominent talents to identify himself thus far in the Class of 2018.
