Simpson ready for next step

Point guard Xavier Simpson has had a tremendous June and July, and is getting ready for the next step in his recruitment.

It has been a busy summer for four-star point guard Xavier Simpson. Running with the King James Shooting Stars while also hitting up several individual camps, Simpson hasn’t had much of a break. That said he has impressed every stop he has been.

“The summer has been good,” said Simpson. “We played well as a team at Peach Jam, and now I just want to finish the summer out strong at Super Showcase.”

He continued, “I am working to expand my game a lot. My shot has been a major focus, first from the mid-range and now to beyond the three point line.”

On the recruiting trail Simpson continues to have coaches track his every move. Coaches from Xavier, Iowa State, Purdue, Illinois, and Iowa have been a constant at his games with Michigan State also making their presence known at many of his games.

At this point Simpson hasn’t taken any official visits, though trips to Purdue and Iowa State seem very likely to happen at the beginning of August.

About the Boilermakers, Simpson said, “I like the coaching staff there. Coach (Greg) Gary and Coach (Matt) Painter, I feel like we have a real good relationship so I am just looking to see how things go.”

When it comes to Iowa State, Simpson explained, “They have been showing me a lot of attention. Ever since they got there they have been on me really hard. Coach (T.J.) Otzelberger has been on me since he got there, and then Coach (Steve) Prohm as well.”

The one school that Simpson did visit during June was Xavier, and things remain strong between him and the Musketeers.

“That is a great situation,” said Simpson of Xavier. “They have been there for a while and I have a good relationship with Coach (Travis) Steele and Coach (Chris) Mack, so they are always going to be there for me.”

In terms of the next step for Simpson, he said, “I am going to set up some officials and then go from there.”
