Double Pump: De'Anthony Melton

ANAHEIM, Calif. - De'Anthony Melton is one of the West Coast's top defenders and continued to prove that reputation last week at the Double Pump Best of Summer tournament.

One of the more difficult prospects to give a fair star value to on the West Coast belongs to Encino (Calif.) Crespi in De’Anthony Melton.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Cal Supreme AAU 2016 shooting guard is an absolutely elite defender, although offensively he’s somewhat stuck between the one and the two.

Melton doesn’t quite have the handle to play on the ball and isn’t a consistent shooter yet, but he’s got terrific vision, can really get to the basket, is very good in transition and certainly improving his jumper.

The rising senior has overachiever written all over him and is a player who is bound to be a fan favorite who helps his team win at the next level.

“I try not to let my opponent score,” Melton said. “Whatever I have to do. Everyone can score but not everyone can get stops.”

USC and LMU have offered Melton, who also listed interest from Boise State and San Diego State.

“I want to take officials,” Melton said. “I want to make sure I’m picking the right school. I want to find somewhere with a great vibe.”
