Charlie Spoonhour landed Demetrius Hunter two weeks ago. This week, he has a commitment from one of UNLV's top targets amongst members of the Class of 2002.

Peters Picks Vegas

James Peters, a 6-8, 220-pound power forward from Butler County Junior College, committed to the Rebels. Peters played his high school basketball at Chicago (IL) Julian.

Last year, Peters was a first-team all-league selection in the Jayhawk Conference when he averaged 16 points and 6 rebounds. He had been receiving recruiting interest from a number of Texas schools, in addition to DePaul and Illinois.

Charlie Spoonhour and his staff now have one grant remaining and remain in the mix for junior college swingman Antwain Barbour. The Kentucky native will make his official visit to UNLV the weekend of Sept. 15.

The UNLV staff comprised of Barbour's former junior college coach Jay Spoonhour and former St. Louis, Illinois and Minnesota assistant Derek Thomas has strong midwestern ties. UNLV's primary focus this year has been in the junior college ranks and is expected to award its final scholarship to a juco player.
