Bookout Set To Begin Visit Process

Kevin Bookout is a young man with options. While his primary focus apparently will be on basketball, he's a kid with the potential to do so much more. How many basketball signees openly talk of competing in the Olympics?

Bookout Lining Up Visits

Stroud (OK) High's Kevin Bookout, or shall we say "Boxout" because of his rebounding prowess, is a young man with options. On the diamond, he launched a state leading 22 homers last year while throwing 93-mph heaters past would be batters.

He's also a star track and field athlete with Olympics dreams in both the shot and discus. "I should go to the trials in 2004 and have a shot [to make the team] and 2008, 2112, 2116 and 2020 seems reasonable." Bookout says the prime age for throwing the shot is 26 so obviously his best years lie ahead of him.

And finally, he's a pretty good hoops player and was among the state rebounding leaders at 13 and averaged over 25 points a game. Not bad, huh?

Right now, he has his basketball choices narrowed down to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, UCLA, Illinois, Tennessee and Kansas. He's visiting Oklahoma State this coming weekend and has a trip planned to Illinois the following weekend, the same time Shelden Williams makes his visit to Champaign.

Bookout also has a series of in-home visits scheduled. The Cowboys are first in his home on Sept. 9, followed by Oklahoma (11), Illinois (16), Arkansas (17), Tennessee (19) and Kansas (20). Bookout says he's going to take his official visits and see what happens from there.

Bookout is going to sign a basketball scholarship, but he's definitely going to take into account aspects of the other sports he's going play in college. "A lot is going to depend on the track facilities and coach and what they have done with the track athletes. Basketball is just everything else."
