Point Guards dominate at the top

After a few down years at the point guard position, things are loaded in 2016.

Quite honestly the point guard crop in previous years had been severely lacking in this country. Coaches all over were looking for floor generals to run their team. With so many schools in need it is a good thing that the class of 2016 happened.

When looking at the top 20 it is obvious how impressive this crop of point guards is. De'Aaron Fox, Markelle Fultz, Dennis Smith, Lonzo Ball, Frank Jackson, and Kobi Simmons all rank in the top 20, and are all considered elite prospects.

Fox and Fultz made jumps into the top 10 after phenomenal performances during the month of July. Also Smith joins them in the top 10 where he remained despite a late injury in the month. Ball, Jackson, and Simmons all flash top 10 potential, and all bring good size and a big time ability to score to the table.

While those six prospects make the group great at the top, it definitely doesn’t end there. Players such as Tony Carr, Cassius Winston, Alterique Gilbert, Ty Jerome, Xavier Simpson, and J.J. Caldwell give this crew a ton of depth through the middle.

Every one of those players is a legitimate high-major starter who will have a chance to really excel and potentially even earn all-league status by the time their eligibility is up.

If that weren’t enough, actually 29 prospects earned four-star status showing the depth of the position throughout the rankings, and even just outside of the top 100.

While a lot of the players on the list are more new age point guards who score and pass, the reality is numerous schools have been able to fill their need at the point guard spot thanks to this crew.
