Ikechukwu Obiagu has 20 scholarship offers

Ikechukwu Obiagu, a five-star prospect out of Decatur (Ga.) Greenforest Christian, has 20 scholarship offers and other interested parties.

This past summer, Ikechukwu Obiago established himself as the best shot blocker in high school basketball.

At 7-feet tall, Obiagu obviously has good size, but he also has tremendous length, athleticism and timing.

“What I bring different is I try to block every shot,” Obiagu told Scout. “I try to get every rebound.”

What does Obiagu think separates him as a shot blocker from his peers?

“I don’t really know, but I think it has something to do with timing,” he said. “I just got used to it.”

College coaches certainly took note of Obiagu’s strong play that led the Georgia Stars 16’s all the way to the championship of the 16’s division at Peach Jam.

“It’s going good,” he said of his recruitment. “I’m just trying to get through everything and chill with it. I’m taking it easy. I’m not trying to rush anything.”

Obiagu told Scout that he currently has scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Butler, Tennessee, Virginia, Memphis, Kansas State, Kansas, Wake Forest, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Auburn, Texas, SMU, Purdue, South Carolina, Florida, Long Beach State, LSU and Vanderbilt.

Obiagu also cited interest form Connecticut, California, Xavier, Georgetown, Florida State, West Virginia and Stanford.

Thus far the defensive specialist has taken visits to Auburn, Georgia and Vanderbilt. He visited all three following the July evaluation periods. What did he like about each trip?

Vanderbilt: “It’s an academics school and they are serious about education. They have really good players.”

Auburn: “Auburn, they are more concerned about the players. The coach he’s a really good person.”

Georgia: “It’s close to home. It’s probably only an hour away and it’s a good school. They are serious with their academics and they take care of their players.”

Obiagu is currently regarded as a five-star prospect on Scout.
