Schools set to visit Lauri Markkanen

Lauri Markkanen already has official visit dates set, but now he'll receive visits from the three schools left in his recruitment.

In early July, Finnish star Lauri Markkanen narrowed his list of potential college basketball programs to three – Arizona, North Carolina and Utah.

Then nearly a month later, Markkanen set official visits to all three suitors. He scheduled a visit for Utah the weekend of October 11th. He’ll then go to Chapel Hill to see North Carolina the 13th and 14th, before closing things out at Arizona the 16th and 17th.

On Wednesday, Helinski Basketball Academy coach Hanno Möttölä told Scout all three schools have scheduled trips to meet with Markkanen in Finland.

Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak will get things started on September 19th. Sean Miller and an assistant will then come in on September 20th and 21st. Roy Williams, who will be accompanied by an assistant, will be there on September 28th.

Markken starred in international competition this past summer, as he averaged 18.2 points and 6.3 rebound for Finland’s U18 team in the FIBA U18 European Championships.

While Scout doesn’t rank prospects that reside overseas, Markkanen, a 6-foot-10 power forward, is equivalent to a five-star prospect. At his size, he’s mobile, has great hands and touch and stretches the floor with his jump shot.
