Mario Haskett holds Big East, AAC offers

The Richmond, Va., area has produced an outstanding amount of talent over the years given it’s relatively small size, and Mario Haskett is on his way toward making his own mark within college basketball.

Mario Haskett worked as an understudy to current North Carolina freshman Kenny Williams last season, but now Haskett is ready to draw his own accolades. After a successful travel season touring with the River City Reign 16-under squad, Haskett is fielding major college interest this autumn.

”Yeah, it seems like I am (blowing up),” Haskett said with a laugh. “I have offers from VCU, ODU, Cincinnati, JMU and Providence.”

Many of those offers are recent, and don’t be surprised if the smooth, versatile scorer attracts additional invitations during the course of his junior season.

Haskett wields a dangerous jump shot with three-point range and also is a fine ballhandler. He hopes to transition into more of a playmaker as he prepares for the college level.

”I see myself playing the one in college,” Haskett said. “This summer was big for me, learning how to run my team. But I also will take on much more of a scoring role (in high school) now that Kenny is gone.”

In addition to his offers, four ACC programs also have stopped by school this fall.

"Georgia Tech came by a couple days ago,” Haskett said, “and also Wake ForestMiami and Clemson. But I’m just focusing on my season. No rush.”

Haskett also is an excellent student who has a particular interest in engineering. We’ll continue to track his progress this season.
