Some big names will suit up for Steve Smith and Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill this season. Harry Giles, Mario Kegler, Braxton Key and Matt Coleman just to name a few. But one player to keep an eye on is 6-foot-9, 240-pound center prospect Khadim Sy.
In early April at the adidas Uprising event in Dallas, Sy showed improvement, especially as a shot blocker and area rebounder. Unfortunately he then missed most of the spring and July with injuries, according to Upward Stars coach Curt Wheeler.
Now Sy is back on the court and should help Oak Hill in the paint.
“He’s a great rebounder and a good shot blocker,” Wheeler told Scout. “He has good balance. Offensively when he made a move a year ago he would be off balance and couldn’t finish through contact. This year he’s finishing everything. He’s just progressed each year.”
“He’s gotten better each year and has taken the game more seriously each year,” Wheeler added.
At this point, Sy has accumulated scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Purdue and Wake Forest. He also has interest from Miami, New Mexico and West Virginia.
“He’s been on campuses of Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech unofficially,” Wheeler said.
Wheeler said Sy is still in the beginning stages of his recruiting process and has yet to set up any official visits.
