Four-star Maliek White commits to Providence

Maliek White, a 6-foot-2 guard, committed to Ed Cooley and Providence.

Point guard Maliek White committed to Providence late Sunday evening, River City Reign coach Chris Herron told Scout.

White, a standout at Richmond (Va.) George Wythe, took an official visit to Providence this past weekend. He also officially visited Pittsburgh the weekend before. Georgia Tech and Old Dominion were also among the schools under consideration.

A tough, hardnosed guard, White emerged in July playing with River City Reign. White showed good passing ability and looked to get his teammates involved. He's also a confident shooter.

In Scout's 2016 post-July player rankings, White jumped to No. 28 at the point guard position and was rated as a four-star prospect.

White is Providence's first verbal commitment of the 2016 class.
