Oldsmar (Fla.) Christian post player Dontay Bassett’s has increased his level of play over the last year and that’s led to an upgrade in his college recruitment.
“Last year he came from not playing at a high level,” Oldsmar Christian coach Jordan Fair said. “He didn’t play a high level of basketball and didn’t have a lot of exposure. Then he came to me and Virginia Tech had offered him. Wyoming had offered him.”
“He just kind of picked up teams heading into the spring,” he added. “Then he tweaked his knee and didn’t play in July.”
Bassett, a 6-foot-9, 215-pound prospect, is down to four schools – Arkansas, Colorado, Florida and Oregon State.
“He’s visited Oregon State,” Fair said. “He’s visited Colorado. He’s going to Florida the 8th through the 10th. Then he’s going to Arkansas the 16th through the 18th. Then we’ll hope to have a decision by then.”
Last year Bassett averaged 10 points and seven boards a game for Oldsmar Christian. Fair said
“He’s really, really developed a nice little face up game where he can shoot out to 16 or 17-feet,” Fair said. “He’s a really physical rebounder and a really solid shot blocker. He’s really good defensively and runs the floor hard.”
