Although a native of Mississippi, Darius Hicks is competing for 22ft Academy in Greenville, S.C. this season and slots among the most talented seniors playing in the state.
He’s a very strong and sculpted interior performer who possesses eye-catching explosiveness. He doesn’t need to gather himself or get a running start in order to make plays above the rim, as he easily elevates for powerful dunks and blocks. Despite being slightly small for the post at 6-7, he compensates with that muscle and athleticism.
Meanwhile, he moves his feet fairly well laterally and should become a versatile defender in college capable of navigating screens and adjusting to teams’ various pick-and-roll sets.
From a recruiting perspective, Hicks also is uncommitted heading into October. Hicks at one time was set for Mississippi State, but that pledged unraveled following the Bulldogs’ coaching change this past spring. He continues to field interest from college programs and has one visit in mind for next month.
”I plan on taking an official visit to Georgia Tech on (October) 24th,” Hicks said. “I talk to all of the coaches. Coach (Chad) Dollar, Coach Mamadou (N’diaye), Coach (Tom) Herrion and of course Coach (Brian) Gregory.”
Hicks said he holds several offers with others also showing interest.
Hicks is a solid three star prospect and, thanks to his strength, should be able to contribute at the program of his choice from day one.
