Class of 2016 prospect Brandon Cyrus is expected to be a leader this year at La Lumiere as the Lakers look to get back to the Dick’s Sports High School Nationals at the end of the season. Cyrus, who is a high level athlete on the wing, is now healthy and seeing his recruitment pick up again.
“I learned a lot from the seniors last year,” explained Cyrus. “Now I am just trying to show I can lead the team both offensively and defensively, and that I have improved and can do more with my game.”
He continued, “My knee is 100 percent, it feels so much better. I was hurt starting in December, so I hadn’t been healthy in a while and now everything feels great.”
On the recruiting trail things have kind of been restarted for Cyrus since the summer, and more schools are coming in to see him.
“After I was injured some schools dropped out, but schools that have seen me in open gym have really liked me,” noted Cyrus. “Texas liked me, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Nevada, St. Bonaventure, DePaul, and a lot of new schools are coming in.”
DePaul actually offered Cyrus immediately after seeing him at an open gym, and according to Cyrus it was great to get that offer immediately.
“It means a lot that a coach can just walk in a gym and not even come here originally for me, and see how hard I play and my leadership and offer me on the spot," said Cyrus of the DePaul offer.
For now Cyrus says he is taking things slow, and wants to see who is really interested in him.
“I don’t have any visits lined up,” said Cyrus. “I am going to wait a little bit longer and see who comes in and is serious.”
