2017 PF Justyn Hamilton makes USA Basketball debut

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Justyn Hamilton made his USA Basketball debut on Saturday morning, and the 2017 prospect showed plenty of promise.

There aren’t many newcomers to the 2015 USA Basketball Junior National Team Minicamp, as the majority of the players in attendance have had some role in USA Basketball before.

However, this is all new for Justyn Hamilton, a 6-foot-8, 190-pound 2017 power forward out of Charlotte (N.C.) Independence.

“My coach sent a video of me working out to a Nike director, who sent it to somebody on the USA staff,” Hamilton said. “They really liked it and now I’m here.”

Hamilton showed off his size, length, versatility and face up skills in drills on Saturday morning and takes pride in those areas and others.

“I play defense and rebound well,” he said. “On the offensive end I have a nice midrange jump shot and I like to attack the offensive glass. I’m working on my ball handling and court vision.”

The junior holds offers from Northwestern State, VCU, College of Charleston, North Florida and Highpoint with interest from Tennessee and Syracuse.

He’s long been a fan of a local school.

“I grew up liking North Carolina,” Hamilton said. “I always watched them when I was little. I’m a huge fan of North Carolina.”

Finding the right coach will be important for Hamilton as he goes through the recruiting process.

“I’m just looking for a good coaching staff that will push me to get to the next level,” he said. “I’m always working to get better.”
