One of the focuses for the Xavier Musketeers this recruiting cycle was to add size and athleticism to the roster. Already the Musketeers had pulled in a big point guard with high level athleticism in Quentin Goodin and a tough and athletic power forward with Tyrique Jones. Now on Wednesday morning they added another big time athlete with Eddie Ekiyor joining the fold to play center.
Eddie Ekiyor, who played last season at New Hampton Prep, picked Xavier over Florida and Miami. Ekiyor didn't officially visit the Hurricanes, but saw Xavier and Florida. However following an in-home visit with Xavier boss Chris Mack, Ekiyor felt that it was the right situaiton for him, and now he joins a very impressive frontcourt being built by the Musketeers.
One of the interesting things about Ekiyor is that he will enroll at Xavier after first semester. He is expected to redshirt this season, and focus on getting stronger and learning the system instead of trying to play mid-stream for a team that has numerous bodies in the frontcourt with experience. However with the expected departure of starting power forward Jalen Reynolds and starting center James Farr, minutes look to be available on the Musketeers frontline in 2016.
The three man class that Xavier now has ranks No. 23 overall and features two four-star prospects and one of the best three-star prospects in the country in Ekiyor. Ekiyor is likely the final piece to the puzzle in this class unless something happens with an athletic wing given that Xavier does have one more scholarship to give for next season.
