2016 power forward Dontay Bassett committed to Mike White and Florida late Monday night, Oldsmar (Fla.) Christian coach Jordan Fair told Scout.
"He just liked the environment and how hard they get after it," Fair said. "He likes that they are losing Dorian Finney-Smith and Alex Murphy. He has an opportunity to come in and play. He likes their energy and how hard the young stuff worked for him."
Bassett, a 6-foot-8, 215-pounder, picked Florida over strong interest from Colorado. He visited Colorado two weekends ago and was in Gainesville this past weekend.
"The head coach just dove in and was all over him just like they did with Eric [Hester]," Fair said of White. "He was all over him."
What kind of player is Florida getting in Bassett?
"He's a high energy big with really good athleticsm," Fair said. "He's great defensively, rebounds well, blocks shots and can shoot it out to about 14-feet."
Florida now has a pair of pledges in their 2016 class and both come from Oldsmar Christian. Bassett and Hester make up their current recruiting haul.
